Santiago and its inclusion process

One of the biggest fears we had in the face of autism was schooling; because we know that a large part of the progress made in its process is in a correct
school inclusion. We did his preschool stage hand in hand with a kindergarten, which, although it did not have established adaptation and inclusion processes, always had teachers willing to learn and teach Santiago in a didactic way. Santi finished, graduated from transition and big changes were coming. The elementary school arrived, it came loaded with great changes, which included changing schools, teachers, friends and even shifts; and hand in hand the fear that as parents we had of facing our Santi, of all that, which was new to all. We searched several schools and the answer was always negative or that he had to attend with an accompanying therapist; As a family we were convinced that Santi could attend alone; We arrived at the current school, a small school, few children per course, and above all a team of willing teachers; currently Santiago is in the second grade of primary school and leveling some processes of first grade; The school has a psychologist who guides and directs the curricular adaptation and inclusion activities; It has been teamwork: Family, School and Therapists, but above all the spirit of struggle and self-improvement that our Santi shows us every day.

Santiago 100% enjoys going to school, he loves physical education class, and he tells us about several of the things he does during the day, the school includes him in all the recreational, cultural and sports activities they organize; have friends, share and play with them; His classmates support him in the things and activities that he still doesn't handle very well, and most importantly, they respect him and love him just the way he is. It has not been an easy path, nor is it impossible, but we always keep in mind that it is "one day at a time".

    How interesting, we are going through that process, we found a school that the child loved, however it is traditional and they asked us for shadow support, as a family we know that he does not need it but in a way it gives us some peace of mind to have someone who will help him. can accompany you in this adaptation process.
